Learning Land-Based skills fosters valuable life skills and ways of knowing how to interact with the wilderness around you. We will be focusing on the four basic needs to survive: shelter, fire, water, and food. With these skills we bring awareness into the fold of wilderness skills to understand what is going on around us. We learn forgotten skills and useful crafts that perhaps our ancestors used to survive. By developing skills that increases awareness and comfort of being outdoors, youth engages in a deeper connection to place and understand the interconnection with human and non human world, while building on attributes like sense of service, adaptability, ingenuity, and resilience.
